Valerian Root - C/S

Valerian has been used medicinally since the times of early Greece and Rome. Historically, valerian was used to treat insomnia, migraine, fatigue, and stomach cramps. Today, valerian is promoted for insomnia, anxiety, depression, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menopause symptoms, and headaches.

 

How to use Valerian Root:

 

Tea. Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoonful (2 to 3 g) of dried root, steep 5 to 10 minutes.

 

For anxiety, take three times per day in tea form. Your last dose of valerian root should be right before bedtime. The recommended dosage for anxiety is generally lower than the dosage for insomnia. This is because taking high doses of valerian root during the day can lead to daytime sleepiness.

 

For insomnia, valerian may be taken 1 to 2 hours before bedtime, or up to 3 times in the course of the day, with the last dose near bedtime. It may take a few weeks before the effects are felt.
