We are happy to send out our STORE NEWS and SPECIALS update for July 17 - 23.

As we, Almut and Wolfgang, along with our daughter Aurélie, will be away on a family vacation the end of July/beginning of August, we will not be sending out a Store News and Specials update during the next 2 weeks. You will be receiving it again on August 14th when we are back.

The Store remains open under the devoted and wholehearted guidance of Lisa, Andrea and in part Kacy.

Store Notes from Almut:

FRUIT NEWS:

- Organic LOCAL Strawberries are finished. It was a short but sweet season.

- Organic Cherries from B.C. are still available. Heavenly red globes of juicy sweet delicatessen. Sooo good!

VEGGIE NEWS:

- Salad Turnips grown by Fertile Ground CSA. Here is the story on them:

Ok, take whatever you are thinking when you hear the name "salad turnip" and erase it from your mind. These vegetables are nothing like you've ever had (unless you've had them before) and you will never be able to forget them once you've had a taste.

Salad turnips are a vegetable of paradoxes: sweet yet peppery, crunchy yet melt-in-your-mouth tender, they are all the things you were looking for in a veggie that you didn't know could exist. Both the root and the greens are edible and delicious. Here are some suggestions:

Try eating them like an apple. Try slicing them into a salad. Stir-fry them and their greens in some butter and onion, slap a fried egg on top and you've got yourself a meal. Dip them in hummus. Pair them with cheese. Drizzle them in pesto. Add some to your sandwich for lunch tomorrow. Roast them. Glaze them in maple syrup or miso. Pickle them.

Literally do anything with them except pass them by at the market.

- Cauliflower from California are on a Super SALE now - $3.00 each for beautiful large heads.

- Locally-grown Garlic Bulbs came in today.

Our Store is bathed in the sweet culinary scent of garlic. We are dreaming of garlic-enriched dishes... "garlic butter, garlic bread, garlic cream sauce, garlic and potatoes," and whatever touches your fancy...

- Local loose New RED Potatoes are here. Goes well with the fresh Garlic. 

- USA-grown green Acorn Squash ($2.95 each) are on sale for "buy 1 get 1 free."
