Meat Sale this week:

Now we are starting to get very serious about our whole FRESH Chickens. For $5.00/lb you are getting Chickens that were raised on sunshine, green grass and non-GMO and organic grain. You can roast a whole chicken in the oven or cut the FRESH chicken into its various parts and freeze for later use. (You can go online, there are various You Tube videos on how to cut a chicken into pieces.) 
If you are on a budget, this is an affordable way to eat chemical-free and healthy meat that also tastes delicious.

Produce 'Picks' of the week:

• It is Strawberry season NOW! We are right in the middle of it. If you are planning to freeze or are making jam, now is the time to buy. We priced them at $5.95/lb or 8 for $45.00 ($5.62). Please, pre order your Strawberry flats.

• The first Nectarines of the season (that hairless peach) are still coming in. Grown in California and $0.75 each, and sweet and juicy.

• The Local growing season is coming into full swing. I do have to mention all the vegetables available locally now, just because the 'line-up" is so amazing: Asparagus, Beet Bunches, Chard (Rainbow and Red), English Cucumbers, Dandelion, Garlic Greens and Garlic Scapes, Kale - Green & Black, Lettuce - Green/Red, Green Onion Bunches, Snow Peas, Peppers Red, Potatoes (still last year's crop), Radish Bunches, Spinach Bunches, Tomatoes, Zucchini and Strawberries.

FYI: Asparagus season is usually over  after July 1st. So eat you heart out right NOW!

Enjoy these longest days of the year. On June 21st it is Summer Solstice (longest day, shortest night).
To this day, the solstice is still a critical time of year for farmers because of its significance in the growing season. As daylight hours slowly wane post-solstice, crops begin to mature and farmers begin preparations for harvest. While we may no longer build monuments to celebrate the coming of the summer season, it continues to play a vital role in our survival and our traditions.
 

Our family will be heading out to a friend's farm next weekend - while we are hiking the G to G Trail actually - to celebrate Summer Solstice around a large bonfire with lots of singing and potluck dinner.
