Produce 'Picks' of the week:
In our house we peel the Kiwis with a potato peeler or cut them in half and eat them with an eggspoon (just like a soft boiled egg). I have heard of people eating them with the skin too (will have to think aboutr\ that one).
If you’ve never tried a kiwifruit, you might be on your way to the grocery store after reading all of the ways it can enhance your health. That’s because kiwi nutrition provides an insane amount of health benefits.
For instance, did you know that kiwi is one of the most nutritious vitamin C foods around? It’s true. In fact, just one cup of kiwi provides almost 275 percent of the daily recommended allowance of vitamin C.
Kiwi’s beneficial phytonutrients combined with the fantastic lineup of vitamins and minerals kiwi nutrition provides create a delicious, nutrient-dense fruit with an impressive list of health benefits. Please read more on the amazing Kiwi here.
Highlights from our OUTLET:
If you like Dark, Grade A Maple Syrup from Canada (The real thing), we still have some 4L for $34.00. That is $8.50/Liter. See our Bargain Corner.
As we move into the Gardening Season, don't forget about our organic Garden Seeds. They are non-hybrid Seeds and non-GMO from the Ontario Seed Company.
Here is a noteworthy comment from Murry Bast from Bio-Ag in Wellesley. He wrote in his Newsletter this week:
Murray’s Musings (copied from Bio-Ag News in Wellesley): As I look out the window at the bare ground, I start to think about soil. Over the past fifty years, researchers have observed a decrease in many vitamins and minerals in our soils. Researchers have reported declines in protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin A, and vitamin C. In fact, according to an Australian soil scientist, conventionally grown apples have lost 80% of their vitamin C. So much for that famous saying — an apple a day, keeps the doctor away. Researchers agree that the decline of these nutrients can be attributed to modern agriculture. The focus is now on the physical appearance of the produce, rather than on the nutrients within them.
At Bio-Ag, we’re proud to offer products that promote sustainable agriculture. If your soil tests show low levels of calcium and phosphate, CalPhos™ can be used to increase these minerals. In fact, the effect of applying CalPhos™, can last up to five years. If you’re already daydreaming about your vegetable garden, think about picking up a bag of Bio-Ag Lawn & Garden Mix — it’s our own specialized, nonburning fertilizer mix composed of all natural ingredients, which can be used on lawn or garden. It includes CalPhos™, Dried Seaweed Meal, Carbonatite, Black Earth, and more!
Happy gardening, and if you need help with your soil, give Bio-Ag in Wellesley a call.
