FRUIT NEWS:

 

- Our Avocadoes have been particularly beautiful lately. Buy 1 for $1.95 or buy 2 for $3.50 - $1.75 ea. STORAGE HINT: Keep them on your counter (at room temp) when hard, and you can hold them in a ripened state in the fridge for a certain time.

- Green Grapes from South Africa - $7.02/lb are still super quality and taste.

 

- Mandarines from California (that enviable sunshine state) are still available at $4.65/lb and are truly a delight. Great add-on for kids' luncheons.

 

 

 

VEGGIE NEWS:

 

- We have English Cucs available in 2 sizes. From Quebec - LARGE size for $3.95, or from Ontario, smaller, slightly curvy for $2.95. You choose, we ship it...

 

- Ontario Butternut Squash is finishing up for the season (alas). Food Box customers will see one more 'Squash' in their boxes coming up. We are selling Squash with minor imperfections at this point. The price is adjusted accordingly, from $3.50 to $5.50 each. 

 

- Cauliflower is back in the 'front seat'. Nice big heads for $4.75 each.

 

 

- Big Green Bell Peppers (1/2lb each) for only $1.75 each this week.

 

- Zucchini goes well with that! Also on special this week - $0.90 each for small or $2.00 for a big Zucchini.

 

- Local Red 5lb Potatoes are on SALE for $4.50 bag. It was a very poor "potato year" last year. We are not too sure how much longer local Potatoes will be available?????

 

- Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner, we are offering vibrant Red Radish Bunches for $2.50/bunch. They are beautifully red and come from the Brassicaceae family (that is that healthy cabbage family we should be eating more of...)

 

ON RADISHES: Red Radishes are one of the most commonly used radishes in culinary preparations and can be utilized in both cooked and raw preparations, making them a versatile ingredient in the kitchen. Sliced thin they can be used to add spice and a refreshing crispness to tacos, sandwiches, pasta and pizza. They can be roasted, braised, grilled or pickled. Their flavour pairs well with butter, cream based sauces, fresh herbs, lemon, onion and shellfish. To store keep Red Radishes dry and refrigerated. For best texture and flavour use within one to two weeks.
