Produce NEWS:
- 3lb bags of Bartlett Pears from B.C. are here - $5.00/bag. You can also eat them green, but a ripe, yellow-coloured Bartlett Pear is one of the creamiest fruits you can enjoy.
- The LOCAL Parsnips have landed. Available loose or in 2lb bags.
- FYI: The rustic 5lb LOCAL Russet Potatoes have arrived, just for your Thanksgiving Dinner.
- More Squash varieties have arrived. Orange Kabocha and Red Hubbard Squash are the new additions to the already long Squash list. Check the website's Squash Section for all that is available.
- LOCAL Daikon Radish is now available, nice and crunchy and mildly spicy. Don't know what to do with Daikon? Here are some quick ideas:
You can steam, blanche, braise, simmer, boil, or stir-fry the mighty Daikon, just like you would do with a Carrot. If you've got your hands on a girthier one, it spiralizes beautifully - to make Daikon "noodles" and curly fries - and can be sliced into pretty divine baked chips. But best of all, you can roast it. Chop the Daikon into rounds or cubes, coat them in oil and a sprinkle of salt (no need for pepper - they're pretty volcanic as-is, but mellow out a little with the heat), and roast in a 375°F/190°C oven, checking and flipping every 10 minutes until they're slightly browned and softened, but haven't totally lost their glorious crunch.
And just in time for Octoberfest.... over in Bavaria, they eat the Daikons (usually "spiralized") lightly salted with Bretzels and Beer. At least we have the Daikons!
- Make sure to check out our Bargain Corner! Lots of very interesting bargains there this week.
If you are scrambling to get a "Bird" onto your Thanksgiving table. We have 9lb LOCAL Whole Chickens in our freezer. Roasted in the oven and served on a silver platter, they are just as good as a Turkey (well, almost). The 9lb plus size Chickens are on Sale for $5.00/lb.
Thanking you all for your ongoing support, we wish our customers and all of you in or close to the Pfenning's Community a very Happy Thanksgiving!
