Store Notes from Almut:

Meat Sale of the week:

- We have 2 FRESH Chicken dates. The CHICKEN List is now open for the following dates: Sept 10th and October 25th. Both dates will allow you to buy fresh Whole Chickens for $5.00/lb. But your name needs to be on our Chicken List.
 

The Chickens are fed organic feed and have been raised with real sunshine and outdoor access, roaming in the grass and picking the bugs and worms. Just the way it should be for a chicken's life.  
 

- Tuna Wild Skipjack - Mediterranean flavour in a 74g pouch. No draining, no mess. Rich Flavour of sundried tomatoes, olives and basil. Add the taste of the Mediterranean to your salad or sandwich. 
 

- Tuna Wild Skipjack - Mayonnaise & Chives in a 74 g pouch. Sandwich ready. With the crisp clean flavours of mayo and chives. Serve with bread, on a salad or just as is.

Produce 'Picks' of the week:

•  LOCAL Apricots, (LAST CALL), Peaches and Nectarines are coming... Want them by 1/2 cases (10lb) or full cases (20lb)? Please go to "The Good Peach" and order your fruit. Pfenning's Store is one of the locations where you can pick up. Any questions? Call the Store: 519-725-4282.

• LOCAL Sugar Baby and Seedless Watermelons are here. A smoothie with Watermelons and Peaches, add a little Lemon/Lime Juice and you have a drink straight from heaven.

• LOCAL new Garlic is here. The best perfume in the world!, and our cooler still smells like heaven. Average $2.00/bulb.

• LOCAL Sweet Corn - now 85 cents/cob. Nice, big and so sweeeeet!

• LOCAL Cauliflower is available in bulk and sold by weight. Tiny heads for 1.50 each from Pfenning's Farm. 2 heads make the size of one regular size head.

• ​LOCAL Acorn, Buttercup and Spaghetti Squash, Delicata Squash and Pie Pumpkins came in today. All $1.79/lb.

Although Squash Soup is not really in now, you can make delicious Squash dishes on the BBQ. Here's how: Cut in 1/2 and stuffed (mushrooms, quinoa, ground beef, etc) with the skin on, or in a vegetable tray, marinate the squash pieces (You do not need to peel Squash right now, the skin is very tender) sprinkle with Rosemary, Sage or Thyme and bake on BBQ. Before serving, sprinkle some crumbled Goat cheese on top. Voilà, you just created a quick nutritious outside patio meal. 

• We are taking orders for Basil Bunches. They are very generous in size and are $4.00 each. Let us know what you need and we will get them to you within the next 2 weeks.

• It's "Pepper Time"! All Locally available: Green Pepper, Red Pepper, Yellow Banana Peppers, Green Jalapeno Peppers.

• And all the Leafy Greens are still available in abundance. Spinach is back, after a short pause, from Pfenning's Farm.

It's good to be back to serve you all, right when so many local veggies and fruits are available. Such a beautiful time of the year. We hope you all - children included - will be enjoying your final days of vacation and the wonderful summer weather going along with it.
