Store Notes from Almut:
- The last FRESH CHICKENS are coming up soon! These last Fresh Birds will be arriving at the Pfenning's Store on December 7th. Still some time to get your name on the Chicken List. They are $5.25/lb fresh, $5.50/lb if you want them frozen. To be butchered on Dec. 6th.
These Chickens are very tender and there are some pretty big ones to be had too - in case you are thinking BIG Christmas Chicken instead of Turkey.

Produce NEWS:
- We have Ontario 3 lb Empire Apples in the Store - YES, LOCAL APPLES!
- Organic Blackberries from Mexico are the treat of this week. $3.00 per 170g clam shell.
- Organic Blueberries from Argentina for $4.95 clam shell.
- Our Carnival Squash is on sale for $2.00 each. They are average 1.5lb in size.
The Carnival Squash is a cross between the sweet dumpling squash and the acorn squash. It's an attractive squash with a combination of orange, yellow, and green colors, depending on maturity.
The squash is nutty and sweet in flavor, much like a butternut squash. You only need to season it lightly with salt, pepper and a little butter. But feel free to sprinkle the squash with a little brown sugar or a drizzling of maple syrup before cooking. The baked squash takes less time, but the slow cooker is convenient if you need the oven for other dishes. Serve it as is or scoop it from the shells and mash before serving.
- All the 5lb bags of Yellow, Red and Russet Potatoes are still $5.00 each.
- 2lb Blue Potatoes are still to be commended. The taste of Blue Potatoes has been described as rich and nutty, similar to the yellow flesh potato. Giv'em a try if you haven't yet!
- Local Red Kale from Pfenning's Farm is still available - $2.50/bch. It has a deep purple colour and looks stunning in whatever dish you make.
- Local Green Kale is also still available - $2.50/bch.
- Remember the 'big fat' Local Chantenay Carrots from last year. They tasted so sweet and delicious!. They are back. Not quite as sweet as last year but still very good. They are $1.59/lb.
- We also have LOCAL Rainbow Carrots for sale this week. They come in yellow, orange and purple colours.
The recent Romaine contamination investigations have been ongoing, and the source of the contamination seems to have been traced to the Central California region. The organic farms where our organic Romaine comes from are not involved. We're still waiting for some definite results.
- And lastly I want to let you know that the Harmony Egg Nog is available for the season now. We sell the 1L glass bottles for $7.50.
Ingredients: organic whole milk, organic sugar, organic whole eggs, natural flavour, organic guar gum, carrageenan, salt, organic locust bean gum, natural colour, nutmeg, vitamin D3.
