STORE NOTES from Almut:

 

 

FRUIT NEWS:

 

- Valencia Oranges arrived today. Very juicy and sweet. They do have small amount of seeds and are $1.00 each.

 

- Blueberries are back in stock.

 

- Tommy Mangoes, over 1 lb in size each, for $1.75 each. They are still firm but will ripen at room temperature.

 

 

 

 

VEGGIE NEWS:

 

- Cauliflower is still beautiful, with big heads, for $3.95 each.

 

 

- Green Peppers are still BIG and 'Bell' for $1.75 ea.

 

 

- Green and Red Butter/Boston Lettuce is available this week. This Lettuce is really a treat with its soft creamy leaves.

 

- Crimini Mushrooms are now sold by weight and come bulk/loose only. We supply the paper bags and you fill. It is a better price point for YOU, our customers, too. We are very close to being a "zero waste" store. The Crimini Mushrooms in bulk bring us a step closer yet.

 

- 1/2lb Mini Mix Peppers are gorgeous this week. They come in a little bag.

 

 

 

More CHEESE this week:

 

 

- L'Ancetre Cheese Curds - made from unripened cheese. 200g size and $4.95 per bag.

 

- Also from L'Ancetre: the Sheep Feta from Greece. Made with pasteurized sheep milk and microbial enzymes / bacterial culture. It is a medium-dry Feta that crumbles or dices well.

 

 

 

MAPLE SYRUP - LAST CALL for your CONTAINERS!

 

It's THAT time of the year! Maple Syrup season is coming up.....spring is on its way, but not by this weekend.

 

If you are interested in fresh bulk Maple Syrup, we are again collecting your containers to have them filled by the 'grower.' We require your name and phone # on each container. Containers need to have a proper watertight seal for liquids and be at least a 2 L size (glass, plastic pail etc) with a large spout.

Prices will be similar to last year - around $12 to 13 per liter.

 

 

Maple Syrup can be kept in your freezer in any container, or boiled and bottled for a stable shelf food item.

Almut and her teenagers were planning another Blue Mountain ski day tomorrow, as long as the winter fun lasts. But will we go, with the snowy forecast for tomorrow?? We will see, get up at 5 am and check out the roads.

In this snowy deep winter weather it is hard to think about Maple Syrup, but I do hear the song birds already chirping in the early morning hours. They are forecasting spring. Do you hear them too???
