Hello from Pfenning’s Organic,

Here we go with our STORE NEWS and SPECIALS update for August 22-28 !

As always, you can visit our Online Catalogue to see any items that are featured or on special at the top of the page.

Store Notes from Almut:

Meat Sale of the week:

-  Interested in stocking your freezer with clean LOCAL meat? Time to get your name on the CHICKEN List ! Two dates coming up: Sept 10th and October 25th. Both dates will allow you to buy fresh Whole Chickens for $5.00/lb. But your name needs to be on our Chicken List.

The Chickens are fed organic feed and have been raised with real sunshine and outdoor access, roaming in the grass and picking the bugs and worms. Just the way it should be for a chicken's life.

- I am also quietly announcing the Turkeys for Thanksgiving. If you need one for your feast, let us know by early September. Not wanting to spoil your summer, I will mention it a little louder in the near future.

- Yesterday, Tuesday, we received fresh Rainbow Trout (farmed in cages in Georgian Bay) and Wild-Caught Lake Trout, also from Georgian Bay. What is not sold fresh will be frozen. If you catch them before we freeze them, you can have them fresh from the cooler!

DID YOU KNOW? A general rule for cooking fish is to measure it at its ?thickest point, then cook 8-10 minutes per inch (4-5 minutes per half inch). To test it for its doneness, prod the fish with a fork at its thickest point and it should be opaque, its juices milky white.

- Make sure to check out our Bargain Corner! Lots of very interesting bargains there this week.

- SPECIAL ATTENTION to this week's Cheese Sale!

Cheddar mild 200g for $5.00 each

Parmesan grated 125g $4.50 bag

Mozzarella 15% 325g $5.95 each

Produce 'Picks' of the week:

NOTEWORTHY!!! Bernie from the Farm says: If you are wondering why the heads of broccoli appear a bit uneven: it’s all about the growing conditions.  When it’s hot and dry, they hunker down and grow slowly, which was the case for a lot of their growth period.  Then, when rain comes they wake up singing “Hallelujah!” and get growing in a hurry, which results in a somewhat bumpy appearance and variations in colour. Taste and nutrition remain the same!

  • LOCAL Basil is available but needs to be pre-ordered. $3.95 for a big, nice bunch, coming from Dianne's (Golden Acres) garden.

  • LOCAL Sweet Corn - now 85 cents/cob.  Plentiful and "OH so GOOD". Now is the time to eat it. LOCAL and right from the field!

  • LOCAL Cauliflower from Pfenning's Farms is available in Cauli heads or by the pound. Why leave the small Baby size Caulies in the field? They taste just as good and are very cute.
They are $2.25/lb. The "Cauli Babies" are between 1/2lb to 3/4lb in size.

Enjoy those last days of August,

Almut
