Pfennings Organic & More Heath Products and Food

Hello from Pfenning’s Organic,

We are happy to send out our STORE NEWS and SPECIALS update for June 19 - 25.

As there will be no Food Box deliveries during the Canada Day week, we will not be sending out an update next week. Time to celebrate and relax.

As always, feel free to visit our Online Catalogue to see any items that are featured or on special at the top of the page.

Store Notes from Almut:

FRUIT NEWS:

- No Strawberries in sight just yet. The cool, wet spring is taking its toll. We will keep you posted. Potentially, we may see the first batch arriving for mid next week. Pray for sunshine and warm temperatures so the berries will turn red, not blue.

- We did get a new batch of Blueberries today. They are looking very good and are set to be the highlight over the Strawberries this week.

Veggie NEWS:

- Organic Broccoli is finally back! It appears that heavy rain for 2 weeks non-stop put a halt to the planting of Broccoli about 2 months ago. That two week planting gap brought the Broccoli sales in North America to a screeching halt.

Makes you think how vulnerable we are to the availability of imports from the south and how we would be well advised to adjust our eating habits to become less vulnerable and more self-sufficient.

- Cauliflower dropped in price to $3.00/ head.

- So local Potatoes are done. However, we have a new batch of 5lb bags from Quebec, that's pretty local at this time of the year. They are White, Yellow Flesh Red and Yellow Flesh Purple - all are $8.95/bag.

Our family had those Quebec Potatoes 3 times last week. We tried all the colours and are totally addicted to their flavour, so good! We eat them steamed with Sesame Oil from Orphee drizzled on them and fresh Garlic pressed onto them, spiced to your personal liking. Delightful!

- Still no Red Peppers. We do have Green Pepper and 1lb Mini Mixed Peppers (red, yellow and orange) for $4.75. Very nice quality.

- Sugar Plum Grape Tomatoes from Del Cabo for $2.25/clam. Very nice quality and taste.

- Beautiful Red Beet bunches from USA with 3 very big beets complementing the greens are available this week - $3.45/bunch.

- Next week, on June 26th we will receive our first fresh WHOLE CHICKENS for the year. They are $5.25/lb and come from our usual farmer not far from here. They are raised like a chicken should be raised: lots of space to roam, green grass to pick and sunshine on their back.

Call the Store - 519-725-4282 - if you are not yet on the CHICKEN LIST. Pre-order is a must!

Don't forget to check out our always interesting Bargain Corner!

We did process a large 'cooler skid' from Erb this week. A large assortment of products is offered: Cheeses, many Summer Fresh Dips and Salads, Meat Products, fresh Lasagna and Fettuccini Pasta, Yogurts, Kombucha drinks etc.

There are too many items to upload onto the website. The Outlet items usually move very quickly, due to the great prices we can offer. By the time we upload them they are gone. If you (food box customers) are interested, call me and we can go through the cooler with you over the phone.

- All our grass-fed organic Beef Steaks are still on sale. They are 30% off regular price. Check the website for varieties and sizes.

As communicated by the Farm, I am letting you know the forecast on the local vegetables to come. Our fields, and those of our neighbours are filling up with growing things, increasing the amount of ON offerings. Here is what is going on at the Pfenning's Farm in the coming days:

Dandelion is being bunched this week yet. Leaf Lettuce, Swiss Chard,  Parsley (flat/ curly) and Green Onions are all being harvested early next week.

...the cat is out of the bag (so to speak). The local produce bounty is on its way. We have been waiting a very long time for this, and thankfully we can sit back, relax and enjoy the summer ride through our taste buds now.

Enjoy the upcoming Canada Day, all of you!
