Meat Sale of the week:

- 1/2 CHICKENS, Organically raised in the summer sunshine;  reg. $5.75/lb  -  Sale $5.00/lb.

These Chickens were custom-raised for us in Goderich in the summer/fall. They were butchered in November 2017.
They come in 5, 6 and 7lb sizes.
We had many praises about the flavour of the meat from these chickens raised outside.

Produce 'Picks' of the week:

  • Organic NICOLA Apples from B.C. We taste tested today and gave this one an A++ in flavour. They are $1.00 each.

Nicolas are large, round bicolored apples that store well. The fruit has sweet, crisp, juicy cream-colored flesh, and the skin coloring is bright red, with a hint of yellow. The apple is a cross between Galas and the Splendour variety, developed in Summerland, BC. The district around Summerland, BC was once known as N'kwala's Prairie, in honor of Chief N'kwala who held the property. N'kwala's name was frequently anglicized as 'Nicola', hence the name of this made-in-BC variety.

  • Beautiful Pineapples made their way into our Store today; $6.75 each.

  • Broccoli came down again in price, $2.75 now.

  • Green Kale is at a favourable price of $1.75/bunch.

  • LOCAL Organic Chantenay Carrots from Golden Acres Farm. Chantenay carrots are perfect for everyone – no need to peel, quick and easy to cook and they taste delicious! Almut says: "Once you start eating them you literally cannot stop until the plate is empty" Give them a try!

UPDATE: We are still selling beautiful, firm Garlic grown in Ontario. Our supplier is Golden Acres Farm and Julie Fleischauer is the talented garlic grower. They are also the growers of the much desired 'Chantenay Carrots'. Check out website if you want to order.
I just came back from a 3 day family skiing holiday in Blue Mountain. At some point we (my 3 teenagers and myself) ran out of food and had to go shopping in Collingwood. I could not find a health food store that carried produce and other staple items we needed. So the local supermarket had to do. But we all could taste the difference......! I am so glad to know where my food comes from, and that it is 'chemically clean' and mostly local. We at Pfenning's are also happy/confident to sell you the same quality of food our family eats every day. This really gives us the feeling of belonging to a distinct community - the Pfenning's Community.........!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you are part of it.

Glad to be home and cooking my organic veggies again,

Almut
