NEW! - Try out the new Plain Quark (a cross between cream cheese and yogurt). It is made by Mountain Oak Cheese from New Hamburg, directly on their dairy farm. We are also selling their award-winning Gouda Cheese. Check out all their Cheeses!

Produce NEWS:

Nothing too much going on in the Fruit and Veggie department. It is winter on the North American continent. If you want to stay within your food budget this month, stick to our local root vegetables. There is still plenty of variety available.

- Nicola Apples are coming to us all the way from B.C. - 3lb bag for $6.95

Nicola is the trade name of the apple cultivar SPA440, a cross between the Apples 'Splendour' and 'Gala.'

Nicola is large, sweet and crisp with a full-bodied taste. It has a cherry red blush over a greenish yellow background and a distinctive long, elegant, and highly flexible stem.

Don’t be fooled in to thinking that Nicola is best when freshly picked from the tree because the apples actually taste better with storage. So throw this one in your fridge and enjoy it for months.

- Organic Blueberries from Chile arrived today and are looking beautiful and are very tasty (verified by Almut!). $4.50 for 170g.

- Mandarins, Clementines and super sweet juicy Navel Oranges, all from California, are still my pick of fresh 'vitamin C' intake.

- Kent Mangoes are dropping in price. They are now $1.85 each. Beautiful with 'red cheeks.'

Veggie NEWS:
 

- We still have all the Kale colours in stock. Purple/Red - Black - Green. All are showing superior quality.

- Make sure to check out our Bargain Corner! Always lots of very interesting bargains to find there.

Looks like we were just treated to some "real" winter, just like the ones we used to know. And followed right up by the traditional January thaw, if only for a brief moment. Great for some seasonal hibernation, interrupted only by some lovingly prepared local comfort food.
