Hello from Pfenning’s Organic,

We are back and happy to send you our Basket Contents update for the July 10/11 delivery.

Please, also remember that our Order Deadline is Saturday at noon!

You may also prefer to shop directly from our Online Catalogue.

Here are the Store News and Specials from Almut:

Bulk Sale this week (ongoing):

Super Nut Mix (Almonds, Cashew Pieces, Brazil Nuts*, Sunflower Seeds*, Roasted Peanuts, Currants, Sultana Raisins.  * Organic) 25% off. Reg. 10.80/lb  -  now $8.00/lb

Meat Sale this week:

The Fresh Chicken Sale was a success. I hope all you "Chicken Buyers" enjoy the quality of meat you received and that you are making many a memorable feast out of it.

We're in the middle of BBQ season and all our Steaks are on SALE - 15% off.
Check out the website for all the different cuts. All our beef is 100% grass-fed and organically raised.

Produce 'Picks' of the week:

  • Strawberry season is - sadly - all but over. Although Strawberries are still on the website, at this point it is hit and miss in terms of availability.

  • The first Nectarines of the season (that hairless peach) are still coming in. Grown in California and $0.75 each, and sweet and juicy.

  • Green Grapes are on special for $4.20/lb. They are very sweet-tasting.

  • The Nectarines took us by surprise once we bit into them. So sweet and juicy. Sold by units.

  • A new Apple on the block is the Granny Smith Apple from Chili. Sold loose for $1.00 each.

  • The first local Green Cabbage arrived today. Summer Cabbage has softer dark green leaves. Great for "slaws" and wraps. Big heads average between $6 to $7 each.

FYI: Asparagus season in Ontario is officially over.

There is an abundance of green leafy vegetables available locally now. All Lettuce (Leaf and Romaine) are $1.25 each and you get big heavy heads for that. Let anyone say that organic is not affordable!

In this heat, our family dinners consist mainly of a big salad with added Red Radishes, Peppers, Green Onions, Cucs etc. and a scrumptious homemade salad dressing with Bragg Vinegar and Pumpkin Seed Oil. Add some hard-boiled eggs or a sausage or a piece of fish if you choose. I call this a perfect, light outside patio meal that is prepared quickly and which everybody enjoys.

We have Bragg Vinegar in 1L glass bottles on SALE until July 7th. $6.95 per bottle. Usually it is $8.95.

Organic Meadow 340g Mozzarella 25% for $8.00 in the OUTLET.

Our G2G walk was an adventure and will be continued in the fall when temperatures are not above 30 degrees Celcius. We wondered on the empty trail why we did not see any other hikers. I think we were the only 'crazies' out there. So in Monkton we finally asked us the question: "Do we have to do this?" On good friends' organic farm (the Boettchers, see our upcoming Newsletter), drinking cool lemonade, sitting on the porch in the shade, we recovered gracefully and licked our wounds for two days.
Now it's back to work with renewed enthusiasm in offering you all good local Fruits, Vegetables and just plain good real Food!
