Here are the Store News and Specials from Almut:

FRUIT NEWS:

- October started and at the same time the organic Cranberries from Quebec rolled into the store just in time for the upconmig Thanksgiving Season - 227g for $3.25.

I made a Cranberry sauce on Sunday. It was the best Cranberry sauce ever! Here is what I did:

1. Finely chop 1 Orange in a food processor.

2. Combine Orange with 1 Cinnanmon Stick and 3 Cloves and 1/2 cup of water.

3. Add 1 pkg of Cranberries and 1/2 to 1 cup of coconut sugar, panela, sucanat or brown sugar or your sweetener of choice and keep boiling gently till they start to pop while stirring frequently and the mixture forms a light gel. Add more water if needed.

4. Remove the Cinnamon Sticks and Cloves.

5. Ladle into jars and serve warm or let cool.

- We are saying a big HELLO to the B.C. Honeycrisp Apples this week! They come in 3lb bags for $9.75 each.

 - Our local Peaches from Palatine Farm just keep coming.

Here's what you need to know: These are Cresthaven Peaches, and as Rene & Eva from Palatine have been advising all along, these Peaches are picked much riper than usual to avoid the mealy texture that Peaches may get at this time of year if they are picked too early and ripened in the cooler. The downside to these delicious, totally tree-ripened Peaches is that they will bruise easier and not keep as long.

Again: Enjoy those Local Peaches while they last!

- Locally-grown Nectarines from Palatine Fruit Farm are still available - and are very juicy and sweet. Same price as the Peaches - $2.70/lb.

VEGGIE NEWS:

- The price of the LOCAL Pfenning's Carrots came down as they are in full season. They are harvested, washed, sorted, bagged and shipped into stores within days. Imagine the freshness you are eating. 2lb bags now $2.75/bag and 5lb for $ 6.25/bag.

- Fresh Dill - we still have some left. Coming from Fertile Ground Farm, right close to St. Agatha - $2.25 per bunch. FYI: This will be the last fresh Dill of the season.

 -  Purple Cauliflower is the most decorative vegetable of the 'kingdom'. Purple Cauliflower displays vibrant violet hues on the outside florets, however, the stem and core of the vegetable retain a cream colour. The entire plant (floret, stalk and leaves) is edible. The stems and trunk are firm and tender and the florets have a dense, yet soft and crumbly texture. It's flavour is milder, sweeter, nuttier and free of the bitterness sometimes found in White Cauliflower. Purple Cauliflower dipped into sour cream sauce, yummy!!!

- Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we are "food centre" for that event.

We have all the ingredients you need to cook a fabulous dinner. From the fruits & vegetables to Turkey or Chicken to the right spices and seasonings - not to forget (as mentioned) the Cranberries. If you need any help with your creation, feel free to call and we can give you helpful hints or ideas.

- VEGANS and VEGETARIANS!! For you, we have a Vegetarian Stuffed Turk'y - on SALE for $8.95 (reg. $9.95).

MEAT NEWS:

If you missed out on ordering a whole Turkey and still want some, we have Turkey Breasts raised by Fenwood Farm in Ancaster.

If you rather want to cook a whole big Chicken, we have that too.

We will have 2 more Fresh Chicken days on our list. Just mark in your calendar: Friday October 18th and Wednesday October 30th.

If you would like to put some organically raised Chicken into the freezer for the winter months, here is your chance. For $5.25/lb fresh pick up or $5.75/lb frozen.

Interested?? Call the Store to get on the 'Chicken List' - 519-725-4282.

BULK NEWS:

We are venturing into offering more Cleaning Products in bulk. So far we have Dishwasher Tablets unscented in bulk - 33 cents each or 10 for $3.00. Made in Canada.
