Hello from Pfenning’s Organic,

We are happy to send out our STORE NEWS and SPECIALS update for October 24 - 30 ! Looks like we are having a Full Moon tonight.

As always, you can visit our Online Catalogue to see any items that are featured or on special at the top of the page.

Store Notes from Almut:

- Exciting News: the upcoming fresh whole Chickens! They are arriving on October 26th, that's this Friday and they need to be pre-ordered.

For $5.00/lb they range from 6-8lb size. Stock up that freezer. Think economically and practically! There is no need to complain that organic chickens are too expensive!

- Don't forget to follow Kacy (our employee currently traveling in India) on her journey! Follow us on Instagram to see her health and culture-related posts from India.

- Our 100% Beeswax Candles are now in stock. Made in Keslo B.C, family-owned and operated. All shapes and colours and sizes are available. Check out the website. There is a Candle Category.  For colouring, the company in B.C. uses veggie-based dyes. The scented candles are made using beeswax and pure essential oils.

Produce NEWS:

There is currently not too much new to report on the produce end. We are moving into the "Root & Squash Season."  A couple more serious night frosts and we will be saying good-bye to the field season.

- Local Pfenning's Cauliflower is simply stunning right now, available in 2 sizes (small $2.75 and x-large $3.95) and the price is very competitive. Still lots in the fields.

- This is the season for a Potato-Leek soup. Maybe add the Cauliflower as well.  Leek still comes from the Pfenning's Farm fields and is at the height of its season. Average stalk is $1.50-$2.25, depending on size.

- Last call for LOCAL Pfenning's Lettuce (Red/ Green Leaf)! The season is winding down. But the quality is still very good and the heads are big and scrumptious. The Green Leaf is a little tougher these days and almost mimics a Romaine lettuce in texture.

- Spinach bunches from Pfenning's Farm are at their all time best right now. Dark green leaves and super quality. Have you ever had creamed Spinach on Potatoes? My personal favourite at this time of year.

Directions:

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add chopped spinach, and cook just until wilted, about 1 minute.
2. In a large saucepan, heat butter over medium. Add onion and garlic; season with salt, pepper and a little nutmeg.
3. Add whip cream/milk or cream cheese (make sure it is melted) and spinach to saucepan with onions. Stir and voila, it is done. Serve with steamed potatoes. Simple but good.

I do recommend Harmony Whip Cream with it.

- 3lb bags of Bartlett Pears from B.C. are here - $5.00/bag. You can also eat them green for a nice crunch, but a ripe, yellow-coloured Bartlett Pear is one of the creamiest fruits you can enjoy.

- The Apples available right now are Gala, Ambrosia, Mac & Honeycrisp Apples. All are from B.C.

FYI: Our Kefir is back in stock. Pinehedge Farm experienced production problems and are now back in full swing.
FYI: Check Milk prices - small increase initiated from suppliers' end.

- Make sure to check out our Bargain Corner! Always lots of very interesting bargains to find there.

Be sure to enjoy that FULL MOON! Apparently, this is a Hunter's Moon. The Hunter’s Moon marks the start of the hunting season in which meats are preserved for the winter months, presenting a time of reflection.

In that spirit, let us all reflect appropriately,

Almut
