Hello from Pfenning’s Organic,
We are back from our Canada Day holiday and are happy to send out our STORE NEWS and SPECIALS update for July 3 - 9.
As always, feel free to visit our Online Catalogue to see any items that are featured or on special at the top of the page.
Store Notes from Almut:
FRUIT NEWS:
- Nature kept us in anticipation and suspense. "Are the Strawberries ever arriving?" Organic Strawberries locally grown are here! The crop is good due to the many rain showers.
Strawberries in smoothies, Strawberries with whipping cream, Strawberries with Kefir or/Yogurt, Strawberries with maple syrup, and best of all: just eat them plain.
- Granny Smith Apples from Chili. Nice and crisp. They come in 3lb bags and are $9.95.
VEGGIE NEWS:
- Organic Broccoli is finally back! The price is much more acceptable - $2.75/bunch.
- Local Asparagus season is pretty much finished. If you crave a last Asparagus dish, better get it now while we still have stock left.
- Local English Cucumbers, very big in size, are on a super special for $1.95 each.
- Everything 'Leafy Green' is coming in locally now and in lush abundance. Kale, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Beet Bunches, Parsley, Cilantro, and the Leaf and Romaine Lettuce. Go to our VEGGIE PAGE to choose and order!
...and finally, the Celery from California also came down in price to a civil $4.95/bunch.
If only this 'horn of plenty' could last for 365 days.

Our family did have a nice 3-day camping experience in Kincardine on the Hack Farm (Almut's sister and brother-in-law). We were also given free reign over the abundant Strawberry patch. We picked and picked and ate until we almost burst. It is very labour-intensive to pick those berries. Any farmer growing organic Strawberries for retail barely makes minimum wage picking them. And let's not forget - the patch needs many hours of TLC (weeding, straw bedding) in the off-season when no berries are selling. So I want to thank all the organic Strawberry farmers (who are mostly of Mennonite background) for all their hard work and effort to grow our beloved Strawberries.
Going camping this summer too? We have clean, toxic-free bug spray in the Store. Give us a call and we can help you find the right product.
Enjoy those hot lazy days of summer with a cool drink on the porch,
Almut
