This prized variety of black grape raisins hails from the sun-soaked vines of California. Royals stand out for their seriously supreme size—in fact, they're the largest variety of raisin on Earth. Royals have a gorgeous deep purple hue and a subtly spicy yet sweet, caramel-like taste. The skin of Royals is also notable for its pleasantly firm texture.

Produce 'Picks' of the week:

• B.C. Apples are still going strong and experienced a price drop in the meantime. 3lb Gala (great eating), 3lb Braeburn and 3lb Spartan (great for baking) apples are now all $5.75 per bag.

• The Navel Oranges from USA are something to brag about. Yes, they are $1.75 ea, but they are as big as a grapefruit and very juicy.

• Organic Pineapples arrived today and are looking very nice. 

• Organic Mandarins and Clementines make a sweet treat for the season. Very good flavour and quality. Both are sold by weight. 

• Organic Red Grapes from South Africa arrived today. Sold in 400g clam shells. $8.75 each. California Grapes are not in season at this time. They will arrive in Feb/March​.

• Green Swiss Chard looks like it came from our local fields. The quality is superb!!

• Red Beet bunches are equally as beautiful. The tops are simply gorgeous and can be used in smoothies.

• LOCAL Parsley Root has finally arrived. Adding this vegetable to your soups & stews will definitely give your dish an extra aromatic flavour and an A+ from you family.

A root vegetable, native to the Mediterranean that closely resembles a parsnip, but has a pale white color rather than creamy yellow. Quite often this root will have the parsley leaves attached to the top of the root, which can be used in the same manner as traditional parsley for garnishing and flavoring foods. The leaves on the root are similar to Curly Leaf Parsley, but broader in width. Parsley roots have a flavor that tastes somewhat nutty with a celery and carrot overtone.
Parsley Root is one of my favorite vegetables to use in the winter. I use it in our baked Root Vegetable dish and in every soup/stew I make. It is that secret ingredient that gives your dish an extra special flavor.

FYI: Local Squash season is almost over. Only LOCAL Butternut Squash is left. 

Also LOCAL Leek is finished, unless you are getting a LOCAL Food Box next week.
