Store Notes from Almut:

 

A WORD on PACKAGING

Our Store has been migrating into the "less and less plastic" mode. I don't think all plastic-free is feasibly possible, especially in the produce section, without loosing out on quality. I only put the Lettuce in a re-used plastic bag, any other item can do without and is stored in the veggie crisper in 'Care Bags.' Beans, Grains and various other Bulk items, Flour and Spices can all go directly into your storage containers (glass, plastic or cloth). Just bring them to the Store to fill.
We will only charge you for the content inside your container. Just remember to weigh the container before you fill it. You can also refill your Liquid Soap Dispenser, or fill a mason jar with unscented liquid soap. You will definitely save money on that item. If you don't bring a container, we still do have plastic bags, but will charge 5 cents for them.
 

Food Box customers, TAKE NOTE! you can send your containers along one week, we will fill them for you with what you want and send them back to you on your next delivery.
 

 

 

FRUIT NEWS:

 

This is not really the season to brag about any Fruit - nor any Vegetables (except maybe the Root Veggies). The Veggies and we humans are now in hibernating mode.

But if you want to be enticed a little we did receive:

 

- great looking Blueberries from Peru today - $4.50 for 6oz or 170g. Super quality!

 

- Cranberries are also still in season. Fresh from Quebec for $3.75/bag. Nothing easier than making your own Cranberry jam or sauce. The recipe is right on the package. Don't forget the Orange in your recipe.

 

NOTE: If you need large amounts of Cranberries for your mega-Christmas party, we have My Compliments Cranberries on SALE for $1.00/lb (in the Bargain Corner)!

 

 

VEGGIE NEWS:

 

As you know, we bought the last 192 bunches of LOCAL Green Kale from Pfenning's Farm in New Hamburg.

The quality is superb, the bunches are huge and heavy. Go ahead and get Kale crazy and creative - for $2.50/bunch.

 

- Our "Nutty Sale" continues!! It is Butternut Squash time. We are selling them by units:

 

1.5lb size for $1.50 each

 

2.5lb to 3lb size for $2.50 each

 

4.5lb to 5lb size $3.50 each.

 

You choose how much soup or baked Squash you want to make and order the size you need.

 

- Last call for LOCAL deep green Spinach! Now sold by weight. Before the snow hit, the fields were quickly emptied by just cutting all the Spinach leaves and storing them loose. The quality is still very good. LOCAL Organic Spinach in December! After this it's CA.

 

CHRISTMAS BAKERY

 

Our Stickling Christmas baking is now available to order. It arrived!!

Enjoy the Stollen, Spitzkuchen or Spelt Fruit Bread, Vanilla Crescents or Speculatius Cookies. 

All of the above go very well with the Harmony Eggnog.....

 

EGG NOG !!!

 

- A treat for the season is the Harmony Eggnog. It is here ONLY until Christmas. Indulge by adding a tad of rum for an after-dinner treat, or maybe add some to your coffee. If you need any delivered along with your Food Boxes - please pre-order!
