Store Notes from Almut:

FRUIT NEWS:

 - Bartlett Pears from Argentina, in GREEN and RED are still here to colour up the fruit display. We are selling them loose only.

 - Nice looking green Avocados are still available, buy 2 for $3.00, or 1 for $1.75 each.

- Navel Oranges from California. They are very juicy and sweet. If the chocolate craving hits you, maybe eat a Navel Orange instead. 

Veggie NEWS:

- Locally grown Arugula Bunch - $3.75 each. Arugula is a leafy green plant that belongs to the family Brassicaceae. It is closely related to radish, kale, and cauliflower. Arugula is a low-calorie, super nutrient-rich food - and very tasty too.

- The pick of the week are the Grape Tomatoes. Only $2.25 each pint.

- With the Tomatoes go the organic Red Shallots that came in today. 1 Shallot weighs between 50 to 80g - average $1.00/ unit.

Shallots are members of the allium family. Shallots have a sweet and mild (although pronounced) flavour with a hint of garlic, and lack the bite you get with yellow or white onions.

Shallots work especially well in dishes where they’re eaten raw, like dressings and salads, and can seamlessly blend into delicate quiches and custards.

- Local Carrots are now officially done. When you see Pfenning's Carrots in other stores they are USA-grown and in Pfenning's bags. But we still have some LOCALLY-GROWN CARROTS! They are the 5lb Carrots bags for now $6.00. They show some fine roots on the skin. Either scrape off or peel if necessary.

CHEESE Lovers SPECIAL:

- L'Ancetre medium 325g Cheddar Cheese is on SALE for another week for $9.95 each. Regular price is $11.30.

MAPLE SYRUP - LOCAL

- We are still offering NEW Maple Syrup in a pail (4L or 10L etc. - NO BOTTLES!). Bring your pail (clearly marked with your name and phone #) to the Store by Saturday April 6th - or send it along with Wolfgang if you are receiving deliveries - LAST CHANCE NEXT WEEK, April 9/10! The price: $12 per liter.
