STORE NOTES from Almut:

FRUIT NEWS:

- Keeping it closer to Canada, try the 3lb Spartan Apples. They make an amazing Apple Crisp. Sweet and sour all in one. They cook down to a soft mush in about 30 minutes. Add some Raisins, Cinnamon and maybe some Pumpkin seeds - Delicious!!!

- Organic Dates - Mazafati - from Iran. Creamy with a fudge like texture that melts in your mouth. A truly delightful treat.

... In case you missed it last week - they are 'to die for.' Wolfgang is on his 2nd box (all on his own)...

- Green Grapes from South Africa - $7.02/lb are super quality and taste this week.

- Organic Kiwis from Italy dropped in price to $0.50 each.

The Kiwifruit, or Chinese gooseberry, originally grew wild in China. Kiwis are a nutrient-dense food — they are rich in nutrients and low in calories. Kiwis are a good source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber. And they are so juicy and tasty!

Quick Kiwi anecdote: Recently, someone in Denmark offered a Kiwi Pizza - which in Italy, the home of the Pizza, was seen as a "holy abomination." Italians take their pizza very seriously, and kiwis just don't fit in there. It was already a cultural insult to see pineapple end up on pizza.

VEGGIE NEWS:

- Ontario Butternut Squash is finishing up for the season (alas). Food Box customers will see one more 'Squash' in their boxes coming up.

- Broccoli dropped its price to $2.95 per bunch. (Cauliflower is still well above $8.00 and we are not selling at that price.)

- Beautiful Tomatoes from Quebec arrived today! They are the size of a grapefruit - for $6.13/lb.

- Celery from California is down to $1.75/bunch. Deep-green and big bunches.

OUTLET NEWS (BARGAIN Corner):

- Our Bargain Butter section is still loaded with all sizes and shapes. Check it out: 454g Butter Sticks Salted from Lactancia, 454g Salted from Lactancia, Semi-Salted from Lactancia, Unsalted from Natrel, Organic 250g Salted from Natrel - we have it all.
 

 - L'Ancetre Mild Cheddar 325g is still on Sale for $5.75 each. Regular $10.75.

- Jordan's 'Morning Crisp Cereal - Bursting With Nuts' (dated May 3rd) is still back for $4.50/500g.

 - We have a variety of Cheeses in our Outlet cooler. Call the Store - 519-725-4282 - if you are interested. The prices are always very good.
