Produce 'Picks' of the week:
- Local Sweet Cherries from Palatine Fruit in Niagara are arriving again this Friday. Regrettably, this will be the last week of Cherries for this year. The Cherries experienced a "crop failure" this year, due to the cold/rainy weather in the spring and the bees having a hard time pollinating the cherry blossoms.
- The Nectarines are a delight once you bite into them. So sweet and juicy. Sold by units.
- Wonderfully sweet Red Grapes are back for $4.77/lb.
- This week we have LOCAL Pickling Cucs. They are so tasty to eat, even just as they are. The best snack item available right now! Just take a bite! Also great sliced on Salads and Sandwiches. Sold by weight. $2.04/lb.
- LOCAL Patty Pan Squash arrived today. It is a summer squash looking like a little yellow space ship. You eat it with skin and all. Sold by weight.
- New Potatoes are here! Sold loose by weight only for now. We have Red and Yellow available. $2.38/lb (The 'old' Potatoes are still available too and they still taste mighty good)
- LOCAL Fennel is here. Beautiful and big. Fennel can be used in stir-frys, on the BBQ, in small amounts it will make your pasta sauce taste amazing. (Fennel needs to stay in the background of your recipes as it can be quite overpowering; use it gently and everybody will love it.)
Everybody enjoy this beautiful warm July we are having. It may be a little dry and not everything out in the fields is happy unless it gets a bit of extra water, but there is so much that really thrives on the abundant warmth and sunshine. We too thrive on these balmy evenings when we can relish eating and relaxing on the porch outside...
